Wrestling Match at Barnsley
At Barnsley Queen’s Grounds on Saturday fully 400 patrons of wrestling assembled to witness a match for a stake of between Pat Higgins, of Goldthorpe, near Doncaster, and Lanky Jack, of West Melton, near Rotherham.
The contest was the best of three throws, Lancashire fashion.
Betting ruled 25s. to £1 on Higgins, who weighed about 13st., and Jack 12st. 121b.
Higgins procured the first fall quickly, and despite Jack’s best efforts also obtained the second fall in about eight or ten minutes, and won the match.
