Two Men Sent to Prison for Night Poaching.

A night poaching episode on the Brodsworth Estate early that morning had a sequel at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court, on Saturday, when James Shotton (24), miner, Goldthorpe, and Clifford Howell (22), labourer, also of Goldthorpc, were charged with night poaching.

Mr. W. L. Crawford, for the prosecution, said that considerable shooting at night had taken place recently on the Brodsworth Estate. It had necessitated a good deal of night duty by the keepers.

At 2 a.m. keepers heard about fifteen shots fired, and about 2.30 four men came along saw the keepers, and ran. The two prisoners were caught, and in their possession were a bag of five pheasants, a number of stones and cudgels, and eighteen live cartridges.

The two prisoners had not the gun in their possession, having evidently parted with it to their companions.

Prisoners, who had nothing to say, were committed to prison for three months, at the end of which they are to find sureties for their good behaviour for a period of twelve months.
