Traders’ Complaint

Candidate to Urge Better Lighting

The Goldthorpe Chamber of Trade have carried their war against Dearne District Council a step further by choosing Mr. G. D. Salisbury, leading Goldthorpe Trader as a candidate for the Central Ward in the forthcoming election.

For two years the Chamber of Trade have continually protested against bad street lighting. They complain that the high cost of electricity prevents brighter window display and reduces the appeal of the shops.

The charge per unit is 6 1/2d., and one small shopkeeper stated that his electricity bill amounted to 12s. week.

Mr. Salisbury failed to secure a seat at the last election. On are that occasion two members of the Chamber of Trade stood for election.
