Private J Cutts
We are sorry to hear of the death in action of Private J Cutts, of Victoria Street, which occurred on September 30.
Private Cutts was one of the earliest in Goldthorpe to enlist, in August 1914, and has seen some hard fighting in the neighbourhood of Vimy Ridge.
He leaves a widow and three children.
Mrs Cutts has received the following letter:
PEF, France, 1/10/17
Dear Mrs Cutts
I am sorry to have to inform you that your husband private J Cutts (13079) was killed in action on Sunday, September 30.
I should like to offer you my deepest sympathy and that of all the officers and men of the battalion. There is a danger of forgetting the great things for which our brave lads are enduring hardships and facing wounds and death. Your husband has made the great sacrifice and you are entering into it.
May God comfort you with the assurance that it is not in vain, that life shall for others become richer and better because of it. God be with you in your sorrow and strengthen you.
With kind regards, yours very sincerely
Guyton Thomas C.F.
