Guest of American Legion

Mr E. J. Clark formerly chairman of the Goldthorpe branch of the British Legion was the guest of the New York branch of the American Legion on Monday, when Major Connolly presided over a gathering of 600 persons. Mr. Clark said that the American Legion was a vast and wonderful organisation, creating and maintaining a spirit of comradeship among ex-Servicemen in the same way asthe British Legion did on the other side of Atlantic.

He recalled his association with the Goldthorpe branch, among whose members, he said, he numbered some of his dearest friends. Though it was a small branch he thought it held its own with any in the world in its efforts for ex-Servicemen.

On his return to England he hoped, to visit his old branch, and .would take with him an excellent impression of the work and the spirit of the American Legion. In conclusion he said, “I would like to say, ‘Success to the American Legion, and Success to the British Legion, but most of all, ‘Success to the Legion.’”
