Joseph Needham, bricklayer, Goldthorpe, was charged with being drunk and disorderly, and assaulting Pc. Beevers at Goldthorpe, on the previous day. P.c. Beevers deposed that about 3-15 p.m. on the previous day, he was on duty in Bolton road, Goldthorpe, where he found prisoner very drunk and using filthy language.

Prisoner had struck a man named Johnson on the face, the wound bleeding profusely. Prisoner kicked witness several times on the shins. Eventually witness got the prisoner into a trap and conveyed him to the Police Station, where he was locked up.

Geo. Barker Johnson and Thomas Medlock also gave evidence.

For being. drunk and disorderly prisoner was fined 30s. including costs or 14 days, while for the assault upon the, police he was committed to prison for 14 days.
