Dearne Athletic were a trifle fortunate to emerge on level terms for their 90 minute tussle with Pilkington’s in the Sheffield Association League on Saturday.

In a goaless game remarkably free from fouls “the cleanest game I have ever had ” commented referee, Mr. G Bostock — Dearne goalkeeper Mackway (picture)was outstanding. He used his height to full advantage and showed marked ability in gathering low shots. He saved an almost certain goal after 70 minutes by diving at the foot of the post to divert a Hanson shot for a corner.

Dearne’s best scoring efforts came from centre-forward Hall, in the closing minutes, but on the balance of play Pilkington’s deserved the points.
