Cortonwood Had Narrow Victory at Brodsworth

Brodsworth 79 Cortonwood 80 for 9

A game in which prospects of winning switched from side to side several times saw Cortonwood scrape to a narrow Yorkshire Council victory against Brodsworth.

With Brodsworth dismissed for 79 Cortonwood had a bad start to see four men back in the pavilion with only 12 runs on the board, then after they seem to have victory in the bag but an inspired spell of four wickets for no runs by Brodsworth bowler Alan Waitt again clouded their victory chances. Points were snatched however mainly by the outstanding work of batsmen Barry Heaney and Stan Johnson, whose partnership totalled 44. With 25 to his credit, Stan Johnson was still at the crease in court would pass the time target with a score of 80 for nine.

Cortonwood bowlers Geoff Biram took four for 36, Philip Wrightson three for 10 and Malcolm Wood two for 33

This was an exciting and well-played game on what was not a particularly good wicket, both teams putting up extremely good bowling and fielding performances. Because there was so little to choose between the two sides, it was perhaps unfortunate that one side took full honours, but all credjt goes to Cortonwood for doing so.
