Mr Richard Stott, aged 24, son of Mr Mrs John Stott, Barnsley Road, Goldthorpe, who was ordained deacon at St Mark’s Church, Sheffield, on Sunday, by the Bishop of Sheffield.

Mr Stott’s father is a miner at the Barnburgh Colliery, and Mr Stott, on leaving the Goldthorpe Council School at the age of 13, worked in the colliery for five years as a pony driver.

He then went to the Callum theological College, where he has been for five years.

At home he was out in his studies by father Wells, a former vicar of Goldthorpe. Mr Stott has been licensee to a curacy in the parish of St Michael’s, Newton, Sheffield.
