1,000 Empty Houses.

Coal Developments Which Failed to Materialise.

In the Bolton, Goldthorpe, and Thurnscoe districts there are over 1,000 houses standing empty, and of these nearly 400 have never yet been let.

The development of the mining industry encouraged the authorities and a colliery company to erect many houses, but the seams were closed instead of being extended.
