The marriage was solemnised at Goldthorpe Parish Church of Miss Mary Briggs, only daughter of Mr and Mrs William Briggs, of 108, Furlong Rd, Goldthorpe and Private William Parkes, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Richard Parkes, of Doncaster.

The best man was Mr Harold Parkes, brother of the bridegroom, Mr Alan Jackson was groomsman.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of white lace over satin, cut on Elizabethan lines. Her veil was of embroidered silk net and was held by a coronet of satin lilies.

She was attended by Miss Jenny Whittaker, Miss Edith Parkes, Miss Jean Parkes, Miss Marjorie white, and Miss Patricia Pepin.

The bridesmaids received gold crosses from the bridegroom.
