Thorne Colliery thoroughly deserved their 1-0 victory over Goldthorpe United at Thorne, for they wore down their opponents to practically a negligible force, although after Ball had scored with a lovely hook shot mid-way through the second half, Goldthorpe went near equalising.

The second half, however, was all in favour of Thorne, and it was only occasionally that Goldthorpe got within shooting distance.
