Taking Bets for a Few Cigarettes

For loitering for the purpose of taking bets, Herbert Chaplin, miner, of Goldthorpe, was fined £5 at Doncaster yesterday. It was stated that when seen by the police he had in his possession money and several football betting coupons.

Defendant declared that lie had only been obliging few friends and received a few cigarettes for his trouble.
