Guardsman Fred Rawsthorne, of the Grenadier Guards, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Rawsthorne, of Goldthorpe, has been in the Guards since January, 1940.

Formerly he worked as machine man roadlayer at Goldthorpe Colliery, and was connected with various bands in the district as a cornet player.
