Mexborough and Swinton Times October 12, 1918
Private T Marshall of Goldthorpe, who had been out a long time with the Guards has paid the supreme penalty.
His mother has received the following letter:
“I am very sorry indeed to have to write and tell you that your son, Private T Marshall, was killed on September 27.
He was killed instantaneously with a shell while the company were going through a German barrage. I cannot tell you how sorry I am give you the bad news and what a loss of your son is to the battalion.
If there is anything more I can do for you please write and let me know.
