Pte. Clifford Hargrave, Goldthorpe

Eldest son of Mr. And Mrs. J.W. Hargrave, Pte. Clifford Hargrave, of 16, Homecroft Road, Goldthorpe, was called up in July 1943.  For twelve months before being called up he was employed at a Sprotborough factory in the joiners’ department and previously at Goldthorpe Colliery on the surface.

Being in the Hallamshire Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment he took part in the march through Sheffield with bayonets fixed after the regiment had received the Freedom of the City.  He is now undergoing a course of training as Bren gun carrier driver.
