Killed In Burma
Official information has reached Mr. and Mrs. J. Bunting, 60 Main Street, Goldthorpe, that their third son Pte. Joseph Bunting (24) was killed in Burma on July 26th. In a letter to Mr. and Mrs. Bunting, Pte. Bunting’s commanding officer writes:
“The circumstances were that he was the leading scout approaching a hill believed to be occupied by the enemy. He very nearly got there when he was shot by a sniper. He died very quickly during the morning of July 26th.”
Pte. Bunting joined the Army six years ago from Goldthorpe Colliery, served in France and came through Dunkirk. He went abroad about 18 months ago. He was a member of Goldthorpe Reform Club.
