She Spends Her Spare Time Dress Designing
A Goldthorpe ‘teenager, who is very popular with her girl friends, is 18-years-old Carole Ann Wingell., daughter of a Goldthorpe newsagent. She designs clothes for them.
Carole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William James Wingell, of High Street, Goldthorpe, spends much of her free time designing. “When I get an idea I have to get it on to paper”, says Carole.
She designs all her own clothes and many of those of her friends, but as yet she doesn’t make up many of her own designs. “I am taking up dressmaking at night school so that I shall be able to make up my own outfits,” she said.
Carole was a student at Longcar Central School, Barnsley, and later took a job in an architect’s office.
Among Carole’s old sketches was an attractive wedding dress which she designed in 1954. Pinned to it was a picture of a very similar dress which she found in a glossy rnagazine in November 1959.
