Producer at 25
Miss Mavis Burrows, who will produce the St. Andrew’s Theatrical Society pantomime. “The Sleeping Beauty” at Goldthorpe and Wath this season, is 25. She commenced her training in dancing and dramatic art at Doncaster and later spent two years at the Shelagh Elliott Clarke School of Dancing and Dramatic Art Liverpool.
In London during the 1945-6 season she took part in the Jack Hylton pantomime, “Cinderella.”
There she understudied Cinderella and the principal Dancer.
She next joined an ex-Forces touring show round the Provinces and afterwards went into “Happidrome” in the Isle of Man.
Dancing Schools
In September, 1946, Miss Burrows A. started a school of dancing in Wombwell, but transferred it the following May to Barnsley. In 1950 she was appointed dancing mistress to Barnsley Operatic Society and has produced several dancing shows, including one at the Theatre Royal, Barnsley in October. 1950.
During 1951 she entered her pupils in dancing competitions at Leeds, Hebden Bridge, Bridlington and Doncaster and in these competitions her pupils won 10 trophies.
Miss Burrows herself commenced studying for examinations at 15 and is now studying for further qualifications.
