Mr. Henry Rhodes Darley

The death occurred on Friday in the Mexborough Montagu Hospital of Mr. Henry Rhodes Darley of Hall Street, Barnburgh. He was 75 and a member of one of the oldest farming families in the district, the name of Darley having been well known in Harlington and Barnburgh for at least 200 years.

Mr. Darley entered, hospital a month ago to undergo an operation. He was born at Harlington and went to live at Barnburgh when he was married, taking the position of gardener at Barnburgh Hall, where he remained for over 20 years. Later he took up service with Mr. L. Soar, of Barnburgh, retiring ten years ago.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Darley up to the latter’s death ten years ago were ardent church workers and attended regularly at the Pariah Church. Mr. Darley was also a member of the Church Council for a great many years. He is survived by a sister aged 86.

The funeral took place at Barnburgh on Tuesday.
