“George Harry”
A Popular Barnburgh Cricketer

Barnburgh Cricket Club lost an old and valuable member in Mr. G. H. Stables. of 44, High Street, Goldthorpe, who died on Saturday at the early of 33 years. He had played for club against Adwick -le-Street on the previous Saturday.
“George Harry,” as he was generally known among his many friends commenced playing league cricket with Barnburgh when heĀ was 16 years of age. He won three gold medals for cricket while with Barnburgh, one for an individual effort awarded for taking the most catches (28) in 1923. another gained when Barnburgh won “Ye Olde Hall Cup” at Houghton in 1921. and the third won in 1928 when Barnburgh were runners-up in the Second Division of the Doncaster League.
Although he had been ill for some two years his death was quite unexpected. The Barnburgh teams wore black bands during their games on Saturday as a token of respect. Mr. Stables leaves a widow and three children. The interment took place on Tuesday at Bolton, and the service was conducted by the Rev. E. D. Bowtle. Members of the Barnburgh Cricket Club acted as bearers. There were many floral tributes.
