Goldthorpe Couple’s Differences

Summoned by his wife, Florrie, for persistent cruelty Bernard Holliday of Goldthorpe, pleaded not guilty at Doncaster on Tuesday.

Mr. C. R. Marshall for the landlord, said he flatly denied cruelty and he (Mr. Marshall) had approached Mr. W. Lindsey Crawford, who was for Mrs. Holliday, with a view to the parties getting together again but owing to certain circumstances there seemed to be not the slightest possibility of that. He was prepared not to fight the case though he did not admit the allegation. The trouble would be who should have custody of the three children of the marriage. At present the wife had the baby aged 8 months, the husband had a child aged six, and the husband’s mother had the eldest child aged ten.

Mr. Crawford said Mrs. Holliday asked for the custody of the children. It is one of the most flagrant cases of persistent cruelty, and there is not the slight hope of the parties getting together again.

The Bench adjourned the case for a week and said the Probation Officer could see both husband and wife regarding custody of the children.
