Leaving Barnburgh

Mr Olwyn Fairhurst, manager of Barnburgh Main Colliery, leaves at the end of this month to take up an important post as Agent of a group of collieries in the Castleford district (number eight area of the NCB)

A practical man who has risen from the ranks, Mr Fairhurst gained his Colliery Manager’s Certificate in 1931 and from 1935 to 1930 was Under Manager at Wath Main.

He was appointed Manager there in 1938 and remained until August last year when he was appointed Manager at Barnburgh stop

His short stay there has been marked by cordial relationships between man and management and a steady rise in output.
