Kilnhurst 88 Barnburgh 88
Considerable dissatisfaction was shown at Kilnhurst on Saturday at the umpires’ decisions, and the result—a draw—was accepted with great disapproval by the spectators. The visitors were Barnburgh, in the South Yorkshire League.
Owen, the Kilnhurst captain, lost the toss for the first time this season, but largely owing to the good bowling of Hoyle (3 for 14) and Cooper (4 for 38) Barnburgh were sent back to the Pavilion with the meagre total of 88.
It was the contention of the spectators that Machin, who finished with a score of 28 not out, was fairly caught out behind the wicket after he had gained a couple of singles. However, the umpires differed in opinion. Kilnhurst opened well and ran up a score of 65 for four wickets. After Rhodes had been given out l.b.w., Cooper was ruled as having been run out, a decision the spectators received with indignation. Excitement was at a high pitch when Taylor and Barron brought the scores level and were then both clean bowled. South and Hoyle replaced them, and after South had refused to hit out, the next ball, to the intense delight of the visitors, skittled Hoyle’s wicket, bringing the game to an end with the scores level.
