Killed in Hickleton Main Colliery

Joe Cheetham, age 40 years, a married man, of Goldthorpe Lane ends, met with fatal injuries whilst employed at the Hickleton May Colliery on Monday night.

He was working in what is known as the Klondike district, He was sitting, taking a drink, when a huge piece of coal burst from the face and crushed him so severely that he died before either home or the hospital could be reached.

He was a very popular workman.
