Golden Wedding

Fifty years happily married, 53 years down a coal mine and only a week’s illness in 78 years, is the gratifying record of Mr. William Jackson, 104, Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe.

The wedding of Mr. W. Jackson, (who is now 78) and Miss Annie Hutchinson (now 74) now of 104, Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe, took place at Tankersley Parish Church on June 4th, 1894, the Rev. A. McNaughton officiating.  Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have lived in this district for 37 years, but are natives of Tankersley.

Mr. Jackson’s mining career began at Wharncliffe Silkstone Colliery at the age of 12, and after 26 years he moved to Hickleton and then to Barnburgh where he was employed up to his retirement.

Mr. Jackson is still hale and hearty and Mrs. Jackson’s only complaint is a touch of rheumatism. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have had a family of six, and there are three sons and a daughter living.
