Firemen Resign
Goldthorpe Men Object to Training Proposal
Members of the fire brigade at Goldthorpe, near Mexborough, have submitted their resignations to the Dearne Urban District Council.
There are only five firemen at Goldthorpe, each with a period of service ranging from nine to twenty years. Only one member is refraining from sending in his resignation.
The resigning members state that now the district is to be equipped with modern appliances, it is suggested that three Council workmen be sent away for special training.
It is their view that this opportunity should be given to the men who have served the district so long, even though their only equipment has been a hand barrow, hose and extinguishers.
