“Boom” in Colliery Villages and Towns

War loan enthusiasm has induced a boom in War Savings Associations in the Mexborough district. Since the beginning of the year twice as many certificates have been purchased and were purchased in the preceding four months.

There are now in existence in Mexborough, Conisbrough, Wath, Bolton on Dearne, and in intermediate rural area about 50 Associations,

The activity in the rural districts is remarkable.

The village of Barnborough centre on members of subscribe £78 and in the still small village of Hooton Bagnall 61 members of subscribe £243.

A clockface exhibited in public places in Mexborough by the war Savings Associations, while keeping the reckoning, indicates that since January 15 £230,000 worth of war Loan business, including conversion, but excluding War Loan certificates, has been negotiated in Mexborough.
