Catch Did It
Spectators at Goldthorpe on Saturday saw an exciting finish to the Dearne-Appleby Frodingham game. With nine wickets down for 99 the visitors needed two rims to win. A. Wade, with 30 runs to his credit, faced Marshall. The bowler sent down a fastish ball just outside the off stump, Wade snicked, and Smith dived to make a splendid catch.
Dearne’s 100 runs had been compiled with difficulty, only Malyen (36) and Atkinson (25 not out) showing any confidence. True, batting conditions were difficult, and light rain fell throughout the game. Pogson bowled consistently well, taking full advantage of the conditions and reaping a 7 for 49 reward.
Feature of the visitors’ innings was Wade’s 30, hit during a critical period with cool precision. For Dearne A. Sage finished with 4 for 17 and Marshall 5 for 41.
