Pilot’s Death.
Mrs. W. H. Bailey, of 4, Homecroft Road, Goldthorpe has received official notification that her husband, Sgt. Walter Hibberd Bailey, met with his death on active service on Sunday.
Sgt. Bailey is the son of Coun. and Mrs. Arthur Bailey, of the same address. He joined the R.A F. on April 12th 1941, gained his, wings last November, and was detailed to night flying.
He was married a year ago last Christmas. Sgt. Bailey started his school career at Goldthorpe, went on to Highgate schools, and gained a scholarship to Mexborough Secondary School. He was trained for teaching at Crewe College, and before his enlistment was on the staff of Goldthorpe Junior Boys’ School. He was secretary of the Goldthorpe Parish Church Cricket Club and took an active interest in all kinds of sport in the district.
His many friends greatly regret his death, and their sincere sympathy goes out to all his family.
