Summoned at Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Tuesday for being drunk and disorderly. Joseph Bennett, miner, of Goldthorpe said to the Bench “I know nothing about it. I was that drunk.”
It was stated that at 10-55 p.m. on Sept. 12th, defendant was found by two police officers, lying in a shop doorway, he started to use bad language.
Asked whether he had any previous convictions defendant replied “Oh, I have been drunk a lot of times.” The police records showed sixty previous convictions.
The Chairman: Yon are still going on with your old habits.
Defendant: Well I have got to do something. I cannot get any work.
The Chairman: You will have to pay 25s. This is sixty-one now.
When refused time in which to pay the fine, defendant said “All right, I will go down again.”
