A Forgiving Master

At Doncaster yesterday Nelly Rocket, housekeeper for a Goldthorpe farmer, was charged with attempted suicide.

She had given a poor woman one of her Master’s old beds, and learning that her Master had got to know this, she took a quantity of laudanum. While “dazed” she sent for her master, and asked his forgiveness.

Medical aid was fetched, and the woman got better. The master’s son said his father would take the woman back again.

She was discharged.
