Mr. Harold Bell

The death occurred on Sunday of Mr. Harold Bell, of 23, St. Mary’s Road, Goldthorpe. He was 84.

A popular member of “E” Company, 45th Batt. West Riding Home Guard since its early days, he held the rank of Lance-Corporal. He worked as a haulage hand at Hickleton Main Colliery, having resided in the district since coming from Haworth 16 years ago.

Mr. Bell was a Knight of the Order of Merit in the Goldthorpe Unity Lodge of the R.A.O.B. and was also a member of the Cross Street and Goldthorpe Working Men’s Clubs. He took an active interest in the Unity Comforts Fund and was chief fireguard in St. Mary’s Road.

He leaves a widow.
