Barnburgh Man Fined

A Barnburgh farmer, James Benson was fined a total of £5 at Doncaster on Tuesday for paying an employee below the standard rate of wages.

Mr. H. E. James, for the Ministry of Agriculture, prosecuting, said Benson employed Frank Dyson from March. 1930, to February last. He was paid 20s. 9d. a week whereas be should have received 25s. when he started and 28s. when be became 19. The defendant bad since paid the arrears.

Benson said he took the youth off the roads and thought he was doing him a good turn. The Chairman (Mr. G. B. Shiffner), told him he had deliberately avoided the law. He knew he was doing wrong.
