Threats At Barnburgh Main

Two Goldthorpe miners, Edward and Thomas Darley were bound over for twelve months at Doncaster on Tuesday for using threats to George Fisher, watchman at Barnburgh Main Colliery.  Mr. C. R. Marshall, prosecuting, said the threats were of a serious nature and were couched in such foul language that though he was not squeamish he did not propose to repeat them himself.

He handed the magistrates a paper with the alleged threats written thereon.  Fisher said the threats were used because he stopped the Darleys from going on the colliery premises.

Pilfered Potatoes

A policeman’s suspicions had their outcome on Tuesday at Doncaster, when George MeeK (45), labourer, Ladycroft, Bolton-on-Dearne, was fined £1 for stealing potatoes valued at 2/6 from Manor Farm, Harlington, on April 9th.

Inspector Redfern said that while in Station Road, Bolton, P.c. Murray saw defendant carrying a round parcel.  He asked him what was in it, and failing to get a satisfactory reply, investigated and found it contained potatoes.  The constable told Meek he thought he had stolen them and Meek admitted he had got them from a farm.  Meek had a previous conviction for theft.
