Stepping Out on a Joint Campaign
Barnburgh couple, Mr.Stanley Sheard (70), and his wife, Elizabeth, of “Glenavon,” Doncaster Road, will be stepping out on a joint campaign — for they will be contesting two of the seven seats in Barnburgh Parish Council elections.
Both Labour candidates, Mr. and Mrs. Sheard feel there is nothing particularly strange in a husband and wife both entering local politics.
Said Mr. Sheard, “There is nothing unusual about it. We both felt we should try to serve the village and that’s the only reason we are both contesting seats.”
He did not think it would affect their private lives if they both succeeded in gaining seats.
“My wife feels more strongly about some things than I do, but I think we would get along well.”
For Mrs. Sheard, this will be her second contest, but her husband will he entering local politics for the first time.
