Mrs. S. Hepworth – Great Loss to Goldthorpe

By the death on Monday of Mrs. Sarah Hepworth, Main Street, Goldthorpe lost on of its oldest and best loved personalities. Mrs. Hepworth, who was 77, was born at Wakefield, and came to Goldthorpe 56 years ago, when her husband took up employment at Hickleton Main Colliery. It was not long before cheerful Sarah Hepworth became well known. by working for numerous charitable causes.

She was a pioneer of Goldthorpe Church of the Sacred Heart being an organiser of collections for money to build the church some 44 years ago. She was also treasurer of the Catholic Women’s Club since its formation 30 years ago.

If the news got round that Sarah Hepworth was going on a trip, it was not very long before the organisers were booked up.. Such was cheerful her popularity partly through her disposition and through her ability to maintain a witty conversation  with anyone.

Mrs. Hepworth was left a widow 19 years ago, since    when she had been an invalid, and she had been out of the house for a number not of years due to her illness.

She leaves three sons, three daughters, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

The internment took place at Bolton Cemetery yesterday (Thursday) following Requiem Mass at the Church of the Sacred Heart.
